Video Performance

Obviously the biggest selling point of the HC-WXF990 is its ability to shoot in 4K, which is certainly very cool, and the HC-WXF990 captures details beautifully. But the fact of the matter remains that in order to actually appreciate the 4K footage that you’ve shot, you’re going to need to view it on a 4K display, which brings me to my next point. 4K is still just making waves in the consumer market, and while readily available to purchase, 4K TVs are still quite pricey. So unless you’ve got a 4K display at home, you’re going to have to make do with the video resolution being scaled down while you watch it. But should you be able to watch any of the footage on a 4K display, you won’t be disappointed. Colors are captured beautifully, and the clarity of footage is also quite sharp. That is of course, until you try shooting at night. There’s a specific ‘night mode’ option that you can turn on to improve overall picture quality, but this add a ridiculous amount of noise to the footage when zoomed in. Overall the quality of videos shot in low light is just about acceptable, with a few bits of noise in certain parts.

Photo Performance
While I specifically wouldn’t use a camcorder to take photos of things, it’s a useful feature to have instead of trying to pick out a still frame from a captured video. The HC-WXF990 can take photos in 4K resolution, and does a fairly decent job at that. You’re not looking at DSLR-quality photos here – just something that can take a quick snap when you need to. Photo quality is acceptable, however the HC-WXF990 does have a slight issue of keeping objects in focus if you zoom in too much.

The Panasonic 4K Ultra HD HC-WXF990 camcorder is a great future-proof piece of recording kit. While 4K content and displays may not be as mainstream as they should be, you can still shoot and enjoy watching video footage with this camcorder. If you’re lucky enough to own a 4K display at home then you’re going to love capturing your most cherished memories in glorious 4K. Priced at AED 3,999, it’s not a bad bargain for a camcorder that would fit in at any home or even for an amateur film buff.
